Three Ways to Measure

Find your size.

01

The String Method

Most accurate for home measurement

  1. Cut a thin strip of paper or string about 15cm long.
  2. Wrap it around the base of your finger — the knuckle counts too, so make sure it can pass over.
  3. Mark where the paper meets itself with a pen.
  4. Lay it flat and measure the length in millimeters.
  5. This is your circumference. Cross-reference with our size chart below.
Measure in the afternoon when your fingers are at their largest. Cold morning fingers run smaller.
02

Measure an Existing Ring

Best if you already own a well-fitting ring

  1. Take a ring you know fits the correct finger perfectly.
  2. Place it on a ruler and measure the inside diameter — edge to edge across the interior.
  3. Record this in millimeters.
  4. Find this diameter in our size chart to get your US size.
Different finger positions have different sizes. A ring for your ring finger may not fit your middle finger.
03

Use a Custom Made Ring Sizer

The most accurate option — Johan recommends this

  1. A ring sizer set is included with every ring purchase.
  2. You can also order a Custom Made Ring Sizer for $10 before placing your ring order.
  3. When ordering, select the size and width that matches the ring you want — this is critical for an accurate fit.
  4. Try the sizer on, find the one that slides on comfortably but stays put, then include that size with your order.
Width matters. Most off-the-shelf ring sizers are thin and will not give an accurate fit for a wide ring. A wide ring in the same size will feel significantly tighter on the finger than a thin ring. Always order your sizer in the same width as the ring you intend to purchase.

Fit Types Explained

Comfort Fit vs
Standard Fit

Not all rings feel the same on the inside. The interior profile matters as much as the size — especially for a ring you'll wear every day.

Comfort Fit

Recommended

The interior of the ring is slightly rounded — like the inside of a dome. This means only a narrow ridge contacts your finger, distributing pressure evenly and allowing airflow. The ring slides on and off more easily.

  • ✓ Easier to put on and remove
  • ✓ More comfortable for all-day wear
  • ✓ Better air circulation
  • ✓ Johan's default for most pieces

Standard Fit

The interior is completely flat — a cylinder. The full inner surface contacts the finger uniformly. Some wearers prefer the feeling of a ring that sits more snugly and doesn't shift around.

  • ○ More "secure" feeling on the finger
  • ○ Traditional ring feel
  • ○ Slightly harder to remove when warm
  • ○ Available on request

Note: Comfort fit rings measure slightly larger when sizing — typically go up half a size from your standard fit size measurement. If ordering comfort fit, Johan will account for this automatically.

Pro Tips

Measure like a pro.

01

Measure Multiple Times

Measure your finger at least three times and take the average. Finger size can vary by up to half a size during a single day.

02

Temperature Matters

Cold constricts fingers; warmth expands them. The "true" ring size for all-day wear is best measured in the afternoon at room temperature.

03

Knuckle Clearance

The ring must pass over the knuckle. If your knuckle is significantly larger than your finger base, size to the knuckle and accept a slightly looser base fit.

04

Dominant vs Non-Dominant

Your dominant hand's ring finger is typically a half to full size larger than your non-dominant hand. Measure the specific hand you'll wear the ring on.

05

Wide Bands Fit Tighter

A 4mm band feels looser than an 8mm band at the same stated size, because wider bands contact more finger surface. For bands over 6mm, go up half a size.

06

When in Doubt, Go Larger

Our meteorite inlay rings cannot be resized after production. When between sizes, always go larger — a slightly loose ring is far better than one that won't fit.
